Question 2

Digital Literacy and information fluency

 Q.2.1

Use information fluency skills to analyze the groundbreaking archeological findings (Homo Naledi) by Professor Lee Berger from Wits University. Use the information fluency process, ask, acquire, analyse, apply and assess to dissect the matter. In your discussion highlight the significance of this finding

Ask:

Who was Homo Naledi?
How similar is Homo Naledi to humans?
Acquire:

Analyse:

Hom Naledi is a Homo sapiens discovered in South Africa in 2015.
Homo naledi, naledi meaning star in the Sotho language was discovered by Professor Lee Berger from Wits University. The professor and his team made history by discovering and salvaging fossils of at least 15 individuals from the Dinaledi Chamber.
Some findings highlighted in the analysis Homo Naledi show that theres a chance that homo Naledi our common ancestor therefore this suggests that it could have had human characteristics both physical and mental as well as similar behavioral traits
Physical features that are pretty similar to us humans:
1.            Curved fingers
2.            Small skulls
3.            Slender bodies
4.            Ape-like shoulders

Other Features that homo naledi has:
1.            Naledi teeth are more similar to apes.
2.            The legs and feet of naledi   indicate that the fossil was tall.
3.            The measurements of the Homo sapiens brain were 1.5 meters tall 45 kilograms
4.            Naledi has a small skull/brain case.
The team that had was working with Professor Lee Berger was made of 15 members. Finding the skeleton was the easy part so to say the more difficult work involved finding the smaller parts of the skeleton. After finding the parts they had to carefully put all the pieces together to create the skeleton structure. And out of more than 1,550 fossil elements unearthed in the chamber, only a few belong to animals other than hominines.

Apply:
We are now able to see how it looked and how tall it stood. With technology you don’t need to physically go see it with social media like facebook, twitter, pinterest just to name a few you can just go on and look at pictures, look up information. It made international news anyone from anywhere can look it up.

Assess:
