Digital Etiquette

Also known as netiquette, is a set of rules that should be implemented by everyone who uses the internet, be it in posting a tweet or sending an email. This rules are set to make the digital world a better place for you and for me. Netiquette can be defined as good manners in the online community (blogs, trends, social networking and emails

Core rules of netiquette

· Respect other people’s time and bandwidth

· Respect other people’s privacy

· Don’t abuse power

Examples of inappropriate digital behaviour:

· TYPING LIKE THIS

Typing in all caps, it looks/sounds like you are yelling that the person.

· Be rude online

If you don’t agree with someone don’t trash them online. Just read and leave it

· Posting with asking others who are included in the picture/post pictures of people kids

A lot of people don’t want their pictures online so before you post please ask.

· Cyber-bullying

Includes spreading rumors online. It can mess with someone’s live and might end in a very bad way

She’s back! Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei made her big return to Twitter after she quit the social media site last month due to racist cyberbullies.The 20-year-old joined forces with the non-profit Cybersmile Foundation, which offers support to victims of online abuse, as their diversity ambassador on Tuesday, September 13.
“Unfortunately, there is a lot of abuse and negativity online,” Kordei said in a press release. “By working with Cybersmile, I want to raise awareness of the support that is available to people affected while playing my part in contributing to a kinder and more positive internet for everybody.”
The “Work From Home” singer said that she won’t let the trolls silence her any longer. “No one has the right to make where you go or what you do uncomfortable,” she said. “It’s important to stand up to all forms of bullying, and it’s even more important for those who are around you to be just as courageous and stand with you! Together, we can put an end to the hate and promote only positivity and love.”

Carroll High School Investigating Cyber-Bullying Incident

On Sunday evening, Carroll Community School District Superintendent, Rob Cordes, said he was made aware of a group text from some Carroll High football players to a gay student who had been selected as a member of the homecoming court. The print-off, which was left on the windshield of a coach’s vehicle on Friday night, included comments telling the gay student to kill themselves or die and that other players would drop out of school if he did not remove himself from the homecoming court.

Cordes said this falls under the school’s anti-bullying and anti-harassment policy, but each one of these situations is different and are treated on an individual basis. The administration is still gathering information, and as of this morning (Tuesday), there has not been any consequences leveled at those involved. He said the scope of the types of punishments the students could face is broad.

Though there were only a few students involved in the group messaging, Cordes said district staff are working together to come up with ways to educate the entire student body about tolerance and acceptance.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Cordes said students, parents or guardians with concerns should contact the Carroll High School Principal, Tammie McKenzie.
